Urine Test Developed To Diagnose Interstitial Cystitis

Sonia L. Planey, PhD, and her team at The Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, PA, have developed a urine test that can diagnose Interstitial Cystitis.   According to the Interstitial Cystitis Association:

The new, patent-pending test detects the presence of antiproliferative factor (APF), the urinary marker unique to IC.

This test will be a wonderful asset to patients because, if this test works as it is supposed to, a cystocopy will no longer be necessary to diagnose IC Disease.  The test is supposed to confirm an IC diagnosis in about 30 minutes.

    Sandy,

This is AWESOME! I went 12 years undiagnosed. It wasn’t until my 4th cystoscopy that I was properly diagnosed with IC. Since diagnosis, I have had DRAMATIC improvement in my IC symptoms, thanks to proper treatment. The doctor who did the 4th one was different than the 2 doctors who did the first 3 cystoscopies. I had debilitating symptoms: pain, frequency, and urgency. I had hit the trifecta. A 10 minute drive to the doctor during a severe flare-up resulted in tears streaming down my face from the bladder pain. If this test can help others to avoid going through the misery I did, that is beyond wonderful! Thanks for posting this. I hadn’t heard it!

    Hello,

This is great to hear. This helps me with the case of my grandmother in diagnosing urine tests. Is this available in Mexico already?
