Taking Our First BIG Vacation

I am a little nervous…we are taking our first BIG vacation with our son in April.  We are going to take him to Disney World.  We have taken him away for weekend type trips, but never anything so far, or for a whole week.  I hope my health holds up.  He will start school next year and we want to take him before then.

For one, we are flying instead of driving, so that will save me many hours of energy!  We are also renting a scooter once we get there that will be delivered right to the hotel so that I will have that to rely on if I can’t do any walking.

I will just keep praying that everything goes okay between now and then with my health and my husband’s health.  We took the insurance in case something happens we have to cancel.

The husband and I went to Disneyworld two years ago. Disability access at the Disney parks is OUTSTANDING! Really, it’s the best I’ve seen. Most rides have a separate line for wheelchair folks, and you can sometimes skip ahead of lots of people. The staff is well-trained in helping out, too.

One caveat though, scooters are not intended to be outside in the rain. I don’t know what April is like in FLA, but we went in August and it rained every day – poured for brief spurts of time. So we used my manual wheelchair, to be safe. You’ll have a great time.

I go to Disney alot, sad to say. April is good and Oct. I wouldnt go in the summer. I went in June one year…6 months pregnant. Talk about sweating. You will get ahead in Every ride. You just need to check with your hotel about what where exactaly to go in regards to the lines and they take care of the rest. What hotel are you staying at? You will have such fun!

My husband and I do not handle the heat well at all so that’s why we chose April. I am really excited about going, but nervous too. This will be my son’s first time in an airplane so I hope he does okay!

We are staying at the Disney All-Star Movies Resort. That’s the one my son picked out.
