A UCLA study testing the startle reflex of 19 healthy people and 9 IC patients showed that IC patients may have an overly sensitive nervous system. They believe this may account for the IC pain and other symptoms.
The researchers were not able to comment on whether they thought IC caused the hyper startle reflex or vice versa.
This isn’t the first study that has shown IC patients to have unusual bodily reactions mediated by their spine and/or brain.
Another characteristic of IC patients are cold hands and cold feet.
what is an IC patient?
An IC Patient is someone who has Interstitial Cystitis – it is a very painful bladder disease that causes urinary frequency and it feels like having a bladder infection all of the time.
