The After Christmas Meltdown

I made it through Christmas Day rather well – it was the day after that I had a huge meltdown. I cooked Christmas dinner for my parents and my mother-in-law, which I really enjoy doing, but any type of physical activity or anything that requires a lot of work usually leads to suffering for me.

The day after Christmas we awoke at 6:15 a.m. to go do some after Christmas shopping for wrapping paper, name tags, Christmas cards and to the Hallmark store. All three of us collect Hallmark ornaments, so whatever Santa doesn’t bring us for Christmas we pick up the day after Christmas at 50% off. I was in so much pain I could barely stand to walk into the store. We then took our son out for breakfast and the longer the morning went, the worse I felt. My mom wanted our son for the day so we took him to my parents’ house about 9:00 a.m. Hubby and I had a few stops to make on the way home so we did finally make it back about 10:30 a.m. I slept until 3:00 p.m.

Every muscle in my body was screaming and begging for mercy! I love the holidays but there is always this period afterward that I am about as useful as a wet noodle. That is exactly what I feel like too. By Wednesday evening I was starting to feel somewhat normal but by 9:00 p.m. the pain was back and I was exhausted again. Yesterday I took my son shopping to spend his Christmas money and I was in a lot of pain again. I could not wait to get out of the store, get home and relax for a while.

I hate feeling like this but it’s par for the course and I just have to take it easy for a few days. Hopefully by New Year’s Eve I will be back to normal – well, as normal as I can be!
