Migraines

Close to 10% of the U.S. population suffers from migraines.  A migraine is not just a normal headache.  The pain and the inconvenience a migraine causes is much more than that.  A migraine is an excruiciating throbbing that causes nausea and some people actually throw up from these.  A migraine can also cause sensitivity to light and sound.  If left untreated, migraines can severely disrupt a person’s work day and life.

No one knows for certain what causes migraines but it is believed that there is a genetic component.  Check with any of your family members to see if they suffer from migraines.

For pain relief, try taking Tylenol and other over-the-counter medications.  If these don’t work, you will need to see your doctor.  There are some very effective migraine prescription medications available that work rather well as long as you take them when your migraine is just starting.  Imitrex is one of the prescription migraine medications that seems to work for a lot of people.
