Those of you who regularly read this site know that I have a lot of problems with insomnia. There was recently a study which was conducted to determine if insomnia is greater in Fibromyalgia patients than it is in RA patients and the general population.
In this study there were 37 Fibromyalgia patients and 31 RA patients. Results from a general population group of 1,284 adult subjects were used to compare against FM & RA subjects. The results showed that:
- FM & RA patients slept fewer hours per day than the general population participants.
- FM patients reported having more insomnia, less deep and restful sleep and didn’t wake feeling as though they slept enough compared to RA patients and the general population group.
- FM patients reported significantly more pain and depression than what was found in RA patients.
- With depression and pain adjusted, insomnia was found to be five times greater in FM patients than in RA patients.
