If you have been denied Social Security benefits for Fibromyalgia, you will want to read the Q & A from the National Fibromyalgia Association. The Q & A features Edward Swierczek, senior claimant representative at Allsup, a leading nationwide provider of financial and healthcare related services to people with disabilities.
He answers questions such as:
- Why are so many people turned down for SSDI benefits when they have Fibromyalgia?
- Why does it take several years for disability benefits to be awarded?
- What can FM patients do to improve their chances of being approved during the initial application phase?
- What type of trends have been seen over the years with FM-related claims?

Hello, I keep getting the run around on my SSI Disability application. I suffer from Fibromyalgia and have for years, along with a list of other medical conditions.I called the Senator of my state and he wrote to the SSA. I am not getting any better.I don’t qualify for Medicade because i haven’t been approved of SSI disability. The last letter I recieved i was denied because of resources. My mothers estate , which I took care of that but now the SSA says I have to wait 3 to 4 months for a decision on my appeal. I have medical bills piled high as Mount Everest. An example of all my conditions that i have been diagnosed with and have went through this run around with the SSA for 7 years are as follows: Fibromyalgia,Sleep Apnea, Uncontrollable blood pressure, a Blood disorder, moderate RA. 2 traumatic brain injuries & a stroke, degenerating joint disease, tendondis in my right knee, Nerve damage to both eyes,TMJ, Post traumatic stress disorder & angoraphobia. Anxiety panic disorder, Migraine headaches….
I recently visited a free clinic in my area, which helped me with alot of my meds. But I am supposed to see a dr. every few months to get my vital organs checked for any damage due to my blood pressure.I aint been able to do that..Who can i really talk to ,to get help with this??Everyone i know, thinks it is crazy!!!
SSI does go by income, so if you made too much at your job, or have too much money in your current accounts, there is no way to get around this as far as I know. I know it’s hard to wait for your SSDI to go through, especially when you need the money, but unfortunately the wait is par for the course.
