Specter-Harkin Amendment Threatened
Contact your Senators TODAY

The Specter-Harkin amendment to the FY 2007 Senate Budget Resolution is in jeopardy. This important amendment added $7 billion for health and education to the Senate Budget Resolution and passed with strong bipartisan support, 73-27.

The Senate leadership is preparing to take action that will decrease the allocation for the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations bill. Instead of an additional $7 billion for health and education as passed in the Specter-Harkin amendment, only an additional $4 billion would be allocated.

The reduction in the overall health research budget puts the very limited amount of CFS funding in even greater jeopardy. Earlier this week the House of Representatives’ leadership agreed to match the $7 billion amount in its bill, so keeping this amount in the Senate version of the Budget Resolution is crucial.

Take action TODAY! Senate leadership wants to vote on the proposal that decreases funding for health and education before the Memorial Day weekend, so immediate action is critical. Tell your Senators to support the Specter-Harkin amendment, which increases funding for health and education by $7 billion.
