Arthritis – My New Battle

I had a MRI on Tuesday of this week because my lower back, hips and thighs have been hurting really bad.  I have had back trouble for 20 years but ever since I took a fall down the basement steps a few months ago it seems my back has went out more often and the pain has been worse.  I found out today that while my herniated/bulging disks aren’t any worse, I now have arthritis in my lower back.

This week the pain, especially in my hips, has been extremely bad.  The past two mornings I can barely walk the pain is so bad.  Now my doctor wants me to have physical therapy.  I am not exactly thrilled to go for therapy because I have been down that road different times and it never seems to make a difference.

Today was my brother-in-law’s funeral and I had to ask my husband to bring me home because the pain from sitting up in a chair for so long was too bad.  I was okay while we were at the graveside but after the meal the pain became excruciating.  I would try to get up and walk around but it wasn’t helping.

I go back to the doctor next week for a follow-up appointment so she will probably put me on medication for the arthritis.

Please, before you start on the road to medication, see a chiropractor. You’ve had back trouble for a very long time and now you’re suffering the loss of a beloved family member, which adds to the problem.

Medication treats the symptom (pain) but a good chiropractor treats the cause of the symptoms.

Ask your friends for referrals to a really good chiropractor. Please try this before you start on arthritis pain meds.

Sandy, I don’t know if this has been on your blog before. I found an online article in “Advance for Occupational Therapy Practitioners”.

The article is titled http://occupational-therapy.advanceweb.com/Editorial/Search/AViewer.aspx?CC=120419 and discusses the fibromyalgia and chronic pain program at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.

    I hope this is helpful.

Sorry, I put the HTML code and not the title of the article. It is “Fending Off Fibromyalgia”.
